Downtown OSWEGO
No visit to our community would be complete without seeing downtown Oswego, located along the Fox River. There are several attractions including: The Little White School Museum, Veterans Memorial Plaza, and Hudson Crossing Park, which is located along the river. Veterans Memorial Walk stretches along Waubonsee Creek, from the park to Main Street. Downtown events include Christmas Walk (held the first weekend in December), the Oswego Fine Art Fair (held the fourth weekend in August), Drag Strip Days (held in July), and Wine on the Fox (held the first Saturday in May).
Downtown Oswego is home to shops and restaurants, including the Tap House Grill, which offers a great menu and a large variety of draft beers. The “Tap” is located in Washington Place, at the corner of Harrison and Washington.
There are many shops to visit on Main Street, including The Marmalade Tree, which draws customers from near and far. The store features a wide selection of unique gifts and home décor items. It is known for designer inspired purses and jewelry. For many years, visitors to our downtown have shopped at American Male & Co. It is actually several clothing stores in one: there are quality fashions for men, women, and girls looking for that perfect prom dress. One of the newest additions to Main Street is Floral Expressions which offers customers fine floral arrangements and gifts.
Another downtown landmark is The Village Grind, which has been serving coffee (and now lunch) to its loyal customers for many years. Try one of the many flavors of gilato while browsing the gifts and antiques. Just across the street from the Village Grind are Mill Race Cyclery and The Locker Room. Mill Race Cyclery features a large selection of bikes for the whole family, and also specializes in bike repair and maintenance. The Locker Room is the place to go to for Oswego High School and Oswego East High School apparel.
Ready for ice cream? Then visit the Dairy Hut, which has been serving ice cream, burgers, and other menu items since the 1950s. Another downtown tradition is the Oswego Inn, which boasts one of the best burgers in the Chicago area. The Oswego Family Restaurant has also been a downtown favorite for many years.
Quilting enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the Prairie Stiches Quilt Shoppe, which just completed an expansion of their Main Street store. Another unique shop is Periwinkle’s, which specializes in gourmet foods and gift baskets. Two other stores include Maggie’s Closet, featuring resale clothing, and Denny’s Trains and Things that offers train sets and many other items for hobbyists.
There are many stores in the downtown, such as Fox Valley Trophy and Promotions, which has moved into their new location at the corner of Washington and Adams, and Family Foto Fun, a photography studio that is new to Main Street. There are also several salons in the downtown, including Salon Spa Suites, located in the Washington Place building. Other downtown shops include Comic Connections, Speranza Boutique, Imagine on Main, and The Angel Center.
