A President and a Board of Trustees govern the Village of Oswego . A professional staff led by Administrator Carrie Hansen manages the day-to-day operations of the municipality. The Village of Oswego Police Department consists of 42 sworn officers and five civilian employees. The police department patrols both residential areas and business centers to ensure public safety. In addition, proactive traffic enforcement increases safety of our neighborhoods and roadways. The department is led by Chief Dwight Baird.

The Oswego Fire Protection District serves the northeast region of Kendall County , including Oswego and Montgomery . The fire protection district employs a combination of full-time, part time, and paid-on-call personnel. There are two stations in Oswego : the main station on Main Street in downtown, and the station at the corner of 5 th and Wiesbrook, near Route 30. Brad Smith is the Fire Chief.

Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is one of the finest school districts in the state. District 308 represents students in several communities, including Oswego , Aurora and Montgomery . In addition to several elementary and junior high schools, the district has two high schools: Oswego High School and the new Oswego East High School . Dr. David Behlow is Superintendent of District 308.

The Oswegoland Park District provides year-round recreational facilities and programs for Oswego area residents. The newest addition to their award-winning park facilities is Hudson Crossing Park , located along the Fox River in Downtown Oswego. The district also provides bikers and pedestrians with an expanding trail network. Golfers can visit one of the finest public courses in the Chicago area: Fox Bend Golf Course. The park district staff is led by Executive Director Bill McAdam.

The Oswego Public Library holds a collection of 123,000 books and 230 newspaper and magazine subscriptions. Each year, over 13,000 children and 2,500 adults attend library programs, including book discussion groups, Internet tutorials and summer family events such as "Stories in the Park." The library staff is led by Director Sarah Skilton.
